McKay was ordained an Apostle 9 Apr 1906 by Joseph F. Smith. Joseph F. Smith was ordained an Apostle 1 Jul 1866 by Brigham Young. Brigham Young was ordained an Apostle 14 Feb 1835 under the hands of the Three Witnesses, Oliver Cowdery, David Whitmer and Martin Harris. The Three Witnesses were called by revelation to choose the Twelve Apostles and on 14 Feb 1835 were "blessed by the laying on of the hands of the Presidency." Joseph Smith, Jr., Sidney Rigdon and Frederick G. Williams, to ordain the Twelve Apostles. See History of the Church, Vol. 2, pp 187-188. Joseph Smith, Jr. and Oliver Cowdery received the Melchizedek Priesthood in 1829 under the hands of Peter, James and John. Peter, James and John were ordained Apostles by the Lord Jesus Christ. Note: Dean Preston Barton was born 31 March 1930 during the great depression to Owen Henry Barton and Emma Zwahlen. He and his siblings - - Una, Nina, John Owen, Jerald Lee, and Kent H Barton were each born in the same family house in the south part of Ferron, Utah. Dean grew up in Ferron, married his Ferron sweetheart, Arlene Rasmussen. They had four children. Dean served as an officer in the US Air Force, graduated with a doctorate in educational psychology from BYU, worked in education as a teacher, counselor, psychologist for nine years. and worked for publishing companies for thirty years. He served as bishop of the Aptos Ward, Santa Cruz California Stake, from 1990 to 1995. Dean will be buried in the Ferron Cemetery.

Owen Henry Barton was born 16 Oct 1892 to John Henry Barton and Martha Ann Boswell. Owen had four sisters and a brother: Milinda Jane, Lucy, Clyda Jerusha, John Wesley and Hazel. Owen was the youngest in the family. He finished the ninth grade which was all the school they had in Ferron. As a youth on a ranch he had many chores to do - - milk six to eight cows, feed pigs and horses. When his father died, Owen purchased the farm from his mother. He courted Emma Zwahlen, who lived down the road apiece, for three years. They attended silent movies and a weekly dance. They were married 2 Apr 1914 in the Salt Lake temple. They had six children: Una, Nina, John Owen, Jerald Lee, Dean Preston, and Kent H. Owen was always active in the church. He was very industrious and expected the same of his family. He had a great sense of humor and had many friends. He died of a heart attack at age 69 in 1962. He is buried in the Ferron Cemetery.

Funeral services for Owen H. Barton, 69, who died suddenly at his home in Ferron Monday morning of natural causes, will be held Thursday (today) in the South Emery High School auditorium, beginning at 2 p.m. Mr. Barton was born 16 Oct 1892 in Ferron to John Henry and Martha Ann Boswell Barton. He married Emma Zwahlen 2 Apr 1914 in the Salt Lake temple. During his life Mr. Barton had been a prominent cattleman and rancher. He was an active member of the LDS church, serving as High Priest group leader and ward teaching supervisor at the time of his death. His survivors include his widow; daughters Una and Nina. and sons John, Jerald, Dean and Kent; 16 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild; sisters Millie, Clyda and Hazel.

Jerald called his brothers and sisters to announce father's death. Father had recently returned from a trip to Seattle with the John Barton family. That morning he was up early getting ready to buy a new car. While he was shaving he dropped to the floor. Mother found him, called Jerald, but they could not revive him.
