Emma Barton was born 7 Aug 1895 at home in Ferron, Utah. Her parents, John Zwahlen and Anna Maria Schultheiss Zwahlen had eight children: Mary, John, Joseph, Hyrum William, David Francis, Friedrich Albert, Samuel Heinrich, and Emma. Emma married Owen Henry Barton in the Salt Lake Temple 2 Apr 1914. Emma and Owen purchased the Barton farm. They purchased more property over the years until they had a large, thriving cattle ranch and farm. They raised Hereford cattle, Holstein and Jersey milk cows, horses, pigs, turkeys and chickens. They had six children - - Una, Nina, John Owen, Jerald Lee, Dean Preston and Kent H. As the years went by they got electricity and then running water piped to the house. One of the nicest things for Emma was putting the scrub board away and using the electric clothes washer. Emma grew flowers as a hobby and enjoyed arranging bouquets for weddings and special occasions. Emma was Relief Society president for a few years. Her father, John Zwahlen, built a house next door. Emma took care of him until he died in 1939. She always helped the needy people in town with food, flowers, and good cheer. She died 27 Feb 1985 and is buried in the Ferron Cemetery.

Friend, mother, good neighbor, social worker and active in church circles, Mrs. Barton fills each day with extra happiness and cheer for all she meets. A fine housekeeper and wonderful cook, Mrs.
Barton also finds time to keep a beautiful yard filled with floweres and schrubs, a showplace in Ferron.
